Treebase App:

If you are planting a tree: Click the button on the app "I am planting a tree". Take a photo, enter the species and the app will do the rest; populating the tree's new web page with the exact geo-coordinates, date and time and maybe even recording the name of the planter (can we get some kind of tree planters hall of fame going here to reward these heroes of the natural world?)

If you are visiting a tree: Scan / photograph the tree using the app, it will calculate your coordinates and the coordinates of the tree, marking it against the global map and either adding your photo to the "timeline" of the tree (a sort of window through time that records the life of the tree), or, if the tree has not previously been recorded, creating a new database entry for the tree. Take another photo of a leaf, identify the species if possible. You could also measure the trunk. We could also include an approximate height estimator using trigonometric calculations.

Encouraging Tree Planting:

• Some kind of tree planting hall of fame, enabling tree planters to keep track of their totals and receive some award for being the most prolific tree planter.

• Educational resources. Teaching people which trees are suitable for their region (non-invasive) and helping them learn what best steps can be taken to protect and grow trees.
